To work on something with heart and soul, putting a piece of yourself into it, that is 'meraki'.

I transform ‘ordinary’ drums, both new and used, into colorful and unique Meraki Drums. Who am I? I’m Benno, a drummer who loves to create beautiful things alongside rhythms. I appreciate that you can see when something is handmade—it’s not factory-produced. A bit of imperfection, a scratch or a flaw here and there, adds character to the drums. I use these drums, among other things, for Connective Drumming workshops.

Standing drums with large diameters and deep tones. Bass drums and floor toms transformed into tribal drums. The drums are set on three legs and played standing with sticks. For the workshops, I use mesh drum heads, triggers, and a drum computer, allowing for softer playing—ideal in spaces where others may still be working. An additional benefit is that you can produce any sound you want from the drums. Each drum is unique, featuring its own colors and symbols.

Meraki Mini Drumkit

I was asked to provide some kind of acoustic performance. I have a cajon, but I prefer drumming on drums with sticks and pedals. That’s how the Meraki Mini Drumkit came to be. It features smaller sizes, is quieter than a regular drum kit, and fits easily in the trunk. I tried to source as many parts as possible second-hand, purchasing new parts only when I couldn’t find them. The kit includes a 16″x16″ bass drum, a 10″x5.5″ snare drum, an 8″x6″ tom, and a 13″x11″ floor tom.
